My School Morning Routine 2020

Hi everyone!

Although I'm totally capable of staying up until 2am on a Friday night, I'd definitely say I'm more of a morning person. I leave for school very early every morning (around seven), so I try to wake up around five. It sounds crazy at first, but I discovered the secret is simply going to bed early. I used to go to bed at eleven and wake up at six, but now it's more around nine every night.

I really love waking up early. You rise with the sun and have an hour all to yourself; it's just you, God, and your coffee. You get to see the sunrise and have time to prepare a nice breakfast for yourself. It really helps me start my day on the right foot, rather than getting up thirty minutes before we have to leave and barely having time to get ready, much less make breakfast!

In today's post, I thought I'd share my school day morning routine with you guys!

As I said before, I usually wake up between five and five-thirty. I have two alarms set -- one on my phone and one on an old-fashioned alarm clock. The alarm clock is always next to my bed, and my phone is on my desk charging across the room. There are three advantages to this that I like:

1) I can't just reach over and grab my phone to use right away when I get up. I can get a slower start to my morning.

2) I need to physically get up out of bed to turn off the alarm on my phone, which helps wake me up.

3) Two alarms make sure I don't sleep through them!!

After I wake up, I go into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. If I'm taking a shower that day, I'll do that, too. Then I pick out my outfit and get ready for the day. I like doing this first so I don't have to worry about it later, and it helps get me up and awake.

Then I head downstairs into the kitchen. I make myself a cup of coffee with our Keurig first. I'm slowly trying to get off coffee (I'm very addicted) so I choose one of the smallest settings on the coffee maker.

Next, I usually head back upstairs and sip on my coffee while I do my makeup. I like listening to music while I do this, too. I'm thinking of doing a makeup routine sometime soon, so be on the lookout for that!

By this time it's around six and my family is starting to wake up, so I go back downstairs and make breakfast for me and everybody else. Some of my go-to's for quick breakfasts are smoothies, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, and bagels.

I usually use the rest of the time before we have to leave to pack up the car, finish any last-minute homework assignments I haven't gotten to, or to tidy the kitchen or my room.

Before we leave, I always like to read some devotional books to help me stay focused on God throughout the day: My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers and The Valley of Vision by Arthur Bennett. Usually, I only have time to read the Bible in the evening after I get home from school, but those two books are very good for reading on a busy morning.

After I've done all that, we head off to school!

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you enjoyed it!

Are you a morning person or a night person? What does a normal morning look like for you?
